Snow-shoes have enjoyed a burst of popularity in recent years. They are a fun, technically easy way to enjoy the Norwegian outdoors – letting you get ‘off-the-beaten-track’!

Expat Relocation’s forthcoming event provides an introduction to snow shoing, allowing participants to explore the wonders of Nordmarka. Snows shoes are attached to your shoes, and by spreading your weight they allow you to ‘float’ on top of the snow. The motto is: “If you can walk, you can snow-shoe!” We will provide snow shoes and poles. Meeting place: Øvresetertjern Time: 18:00 Use Trafikanten to plan your travel if you are using public transport.
Price This event is free for members including rent of snow shoes and poles. Non-members: NOK 330 per person including rent of snow shoes and poles.

Myth has it Norwegians are born with skis on their feet… Whether true or not, it is safe to say that the average Norwegian is extremely fond of cross country skiing!

Join Expat Relocation’s annual Ski Day and get an introduction to Norway’s national sport. All ages are welcome. The event will take place by Øvresetertjern, where professional instructors will teach you the basics of skiing. Skis, shoes, and clothes can be rented.

Meeting place: Voksenkollen bus stop
Time: Please meet at 11.00.
This gives you half an hour to get dressed and find the right skis, before instruction starts at 11.30.

Dear all expats and spouses,

We would like to invite you all to an original lunch at Café Tekehtopa. The café is located in central Oslo at St. Olav’s Plass 2, and has since 1997 been a popular place for city dwellers to dine, wine and socialize. The original mansion that houses the café dates back to 1872, giving it a unique Bohemian feel. It was used as the State hospital’s main outlet for drugs and medication for a 100 years before becoming a café. The name ‘Tekehtopa’ came as a result that the association of pharmaceuticals would not allow the originally proposed moniker “Apotheket” (literally meaning “the Drugstore”, deriving from the word apothecary) to be used. The management therefore decided on the converse version of the name.

We will visit the Freia Chocolate Factory, and will, through a guided tour, be introduced to all aspects of the chocolate history and industry. The tour is visual and interactive. The visit includes:

• The foundry – learn how to cast chocolate
• Freialand – where we follow the history of cocoa
• Freia hall – the company has a      unique collection of art that      creates safety and welfare      at work
• Production premises      – we’ll go through parts of the production premises and explains some of      the chocolate process.

AGE LIMIT
Minimum age for the production premises/factory is 10 years or turning 10 years in 2012. We will spend approximately 30 – 40 minutes in the factory.

DINING
It is served tastings of chocolate during the visit. If you want service beyond that, you bring hot-dogs. They have hot sausage water also for chicken sausage, mustard, ketchup, napkins, cold water and paper cups. You have the opportunity to bring soda. However water is known best as refreshments.

PRICE
The cost is NOK 100. Membership is free!
We cannot guarantee that it will be enough tickets for everyone, so be sure to register now. Members will be prioritized.

The programme will be like a Christmas card from the soloists to the audience, with their own Christmas favourites – and of course a few you can join in with.

just outside of Oslo city centre. With their 12 Full Swing Golf simulators, Topp Golf is one of the world’s
biggest indoor simulator facility. The simulators are perfect for beginners who
would like to be introduced to golf, and it is also very popular among skilled
and professionals as a way to enhance technique. The simulators are reserved
for 2 full hours for our group, and we will in addition be assisted by an
experienced golf coach.

invite you all to an Expat Cultural and Social Saturday in Oslo on October
22nd.

In Norway flea markets are generally arranged as fund-raisers
every spring and fall by the marching bands at the various elementary schools.
Going to flea markets is a popular activity among the Oslo population. Even the
Crown Princess Mette-Marit can regularly be seen at her local school’s flea
market. There is always a possibility of finding hidden gems among the items for
sale, or one can participate in the daily auction for the finer items. This is
also an opportunity to experience perhaps the only place where Norwegians will
haggle for prices, and to see the hard-core flea market enthusiasts run towards
their targets at the opening of the market.
We will go together to the flea
market at Huseby Skole, known to be one of the biggest and best in town, and
easy accessible both by metro and car. We will meet at the nearby metro stop
right before the market opens, and go in together.
